Kids ProgrammingIMCF has a KidFit program for kids aged 9-13 and an Iron Musketeers program for kids aged 4-8
I played competitive basketball from age 9 to 18. I was an all around jock. In high school, I played tennis, volleyball, softball and basketball and was a cheerleader. Sports and fitness were very important to me. I was offered a full ride to Princeton to play basketball, but turned it down because I was in love with a boy and didn’t want to leave. That boy became my husband. Fifteen years and three kids later, I have no regrets. I guess every thing happens for a reason. For me, CrossFit is about my mental state. I need it. I need that release from my life. My mind is my worst enemy. The CrossFit community at IMCF is great. I love everyone. It feels good to workout with people who inspire each other. Prior to IMCF, I went to CrossFit 304. We were a family there. We are just a different family now.
Kevin, 52, and Beth, 49 Beth:
We both attended a local gym three times a week off and on for 10 years. Kevin did Tae Kwon Do for a couple of years, almost making it black belt, and ran with me a couple of times a week. I ran four to five times a week. We joined Iron Musket CrossFit in March 2015. We tried it because of our daughter’s enthusiasm about CrossFit.* At first we were unsure of some of the workouts due to past injuries (knees and shoulders). However, we soon found out with the proper coaching and technique, these injuries actually felt better. We enjoy that everyone is considered an athlete and all the movements are scalable. We love the camaraderie and encouragement from those participating in the WOD and from those coaching it. It truly is a community. Kevin and I love working out together, especially partner WODs. We have learned we have different athletic strengths but they can be combined to make us better as a team. We are truly excited when the other does well, and at the end of the WOD, we have a lot to talk about. We are excited we found Iron Musket
I had gotten to the point where tying my shoes was a problem, I had limited range of motion in my shoulders, getting out of a chair was difficult since my core muscles were weak and I was becoming the old lady who had fallen and couldn’t get up! I first walked into Iron Musket CrossFit on January 2, 2017 unable to touch my toes, lift 10 lbs. without a struggle or even think about a squat! The coaches scaled each component of the daily WOD to meet my level of ability. I started with going to IMCF three days a week and now go five days a week and can actually do so much more! I can touch my toes, deadlift 135 lbs., front squat 70 lbs., do candlesticks and sit-ups without having to stop at five, and a host of other activities that were previously unattainable. I can run almost 200m before having to walk! The coaches are encouraging throughout the class and if you are working on your own, always offer strong encouragement and demonstrate proper technique. Any gym I previously went to, I was always on my own with no support, guidance or encouragement. Everyone, whether coach or participant, is supportive and encouraging. As intimidating as it is to feel inadequate to complete the warm up, strength or WOD components, I come out feeling stronger, healthier and having a sense of balance to my life. I have learned that a day without IMCF does not go well! The holistic approach to our individual lives is supported, encouraged and shared by all. We have become a family that is there for each other, some closer than others, through the tears, joys and successes not just in IMCF but our everyday. At my age, to feel this healthy and physically successful was something I had not expected. As much as it would be nice to be as physically toned as many of my younger peers in the box, it is nice to be 35 lbs. lighter, feel inspired to push physical boundaries, know it’s safe to challenge myself and know the support is there to give it a go. It is incredible IMCF is able to meet the needs of so many, whether through offering child care during the classes, scaling, being accepting of all with handicaps and disabilities (some seen, other not), nutritional guidance, positive role models, the KidFit program, a very gentle physical therapist willing to demonstrate exercises to support our class movements, finding new challenges (such as Lurong), and smiling at all through the classes . . . and let’s not forget the jovial banter and jokes to lighten up even the toughest WOD!
Hours (even Sunday!) IMCF is open seven days a week with several class options Monday though Saturday. Open gym hours are available during all class times. We also have an open gym period on Sunday morning so you can work toward a specific goal or do a workout with friends.
Childcare IMCF is a family-centered gym where the kids feel welcome and understand the values and core beliefs of the CrossFit community. We have childcare available (up to four classes per day) with amazing people watching and playing with our children. The kids area keeps the children contained but parents can still see them (and vice versa) while working out. The kids area has a climbing wall and an assortment of toys to keep them busy and sometimes, they go outside for short excursions and more fresh air. For many members, childcare is a necessity for working out, so we see it as a win-win. You get to workout, and they get to have fun. Don’t be surprised if they become better at burpees than you!

Community - Iron Musket CrossFit is a true community of people—a family inside and outside of the box. Everyone is always willing to lend a hand to help others and true friendships are made every day. Nothing beats walking through the door and being greeted on the other side. Crossfitters are the most uplifting people, especially to beginners. The people at our gym will become your second family. We don’t just do CrossFit together, we have fun socials and special workouts to bring us together outside of the regular offerings.
