Being active and physically fit have been important to me, but as we all know, work, life and family priorities become more complex and it is easy to put others before yourself. That is what happened to me. I was commuting 2 hours one way to work, sitting behind a desk all day, trying to be a good mom but I really felt awful both physically and mentally. I joined a boot camp class to get back on track for a while, then a group of friends and myself decided to try Iron Musket CrossFit and as they say, the rest is history! I have been coming to IMCF for almost 3 years and it has been the best thing I have done for myself.

Every single day that I’ve walked into the box I have faced a challenge to better myself. Early on I remember looking around at other athletes (yes, we are all athletes here!) feeling intimidated and doubting that I could ever achieve some of the movements and weights they mastered. Here I am, 3 years into CrossFit and some of what I never thought I would do, I am doing!

There is a sense of community which is important to me. I have met some amazing people, established some good friendships and feel a part of something positive. I have been surprised by the amount of support from both coaches and athletes. Everyone is so encouraging and supportive and knows when to push you beyond what you think your capable of.When you combine a type of fitness plus excellent nutrition education, how can it not have a positive impact? I have lost 15 pounds, and 6 inches but have gained self-confidence and strength. I love how the movements taught in CrossFit translate to things we do each and every day in real life. For instance, when I pick up my heavy old dog and carry him down the stairs, I am doing a deadlift, when I lift something heavy to put on a top shelf, I am doing a strict or push press. When I am mowing the grass with a push mower, I am pushing a sled. Even though I get older as each year passes, I am stronger, healthier, and more confident now than I ever have been! Thanks Iron Musket!
